The battle took five years and then, Jim and Rachel were finally able to bring Eddie home. For the first time, Eddie got to learn what all the hype was about and he was no longer in the orphanage.

There were many changes that the entire family had to go through to accommodate their new member. For instance, they had to remodel the home to have two separate huge rooms, one for the boys and one for the girls.

On the documentary A Mother’s Love, Jim recalled how awesome Eddie is, “We were at church and in a crowd of people he made a beeline to somebody just so that he could hug this person. At the end of that hug, the person started weeping.”

Why Jim felt so strongly about that story was because Eddie had seen something in that person that no one else had time to notice. The person was heartbroken. That’s a gift Eddie has.

The couple received an Angels in Adoption award. They plan to keep going on mission trips and they have actually said they would adopt again if they felt moved like they did when they met Eddie.
